Deployment
History
The team started Operation Amber Sky at noon on Friday
June 8 by assembling a Base of Operations or BOO at the Dayton International
Airport. Training classes were provided through the weekend.
The weekend also provided an overnight opportunity which is required of
all new members before they receive team patches.
At 9 AM on June 9 the DAI Amber Sky drill started with
participants from almost all surrounding communities including fire and
rescue units coming together at a staging area. From there, resources
were assigned for various duties at differing times. Victims, made
up to look real, were triaged at the scene then processed into the EMS
zone. From there the patients were transported to the hospital area
for more definitive care. The drill lasted two hours.
Saturday afternoon saw much more training activities for
the team. After Supper the team broke down the camp and departed
before dark.

were used in two basic groups as transporters and medical personnel.

Loaders line up for the loading process. Our VA ambus
was used to help transfer patients. Patients were transported from
here to the hospital Zone which was established on the far side of the
airport.

During the disaster drill, Commo Bob responded to a page
from the NDMS requesting communications personnel to deploy to a "real
life" disaster in Texas in response to floods there. Ultimately we
were able to schedule Commo Dan to assist at an MST to be setup on Monday.

Not to be forgotten were the many lectures given to the team
over the weekend. "Weapons of Mass Destruction", Compound Layout,
Communications, Personal Equipment, Cold Weather Deployment and others
were topics this year. Above Greg's Cold Weather Deployment was remembered
as the one with most showm and tell items which numbered close to 100 items.
Greg's 1.5 hour talk lead us from head to foot with many good examples
of cold weather protection equipment.
